The builders for one of the houses we lived in used "green board" instead of cement board behind the tiles in the bathroom. Worked well for about 5 years and then one day the tiles all caved in as moisture had seeped in behind the tiles. I suspect you're planning to use cement board to cover the studs around the tub and I can tell you from sad experience that its worth the few extra $$$//tk
